Charlotte Gateway Station Environmental Assessment

Request for Comments on the Charlotte Gateway Station Environmental Assessment;

 The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS), in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), plans to develop the Charlotte Gateway Station (CGS) project, a multimodal facility in downtown Charlotte on the block bordered by 4th, Graham and Trade Streets and the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks.  CGS will provide access to CATS buses, CATS commuter rail to Mooresville, the Charlotte streetcar, Amtrak trains to Atlanta and Raleigh, and Greyhound intercity buses.   It will also be a major downtown mixed-use development, offering new residential, retail and office uses on the CGS site and on adjacent property owned by NCDOT.

Because Congress has authorized Federal funding for CGS through the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), a Federal environmental review is required pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act.  CATS has prepared the draft Charlotte Gateway Station Environmental Assessment (EA) for public review and comment.  FTA, CATS and NCDOT request your written comments regarding the proposed project and the findings included in the EA.  Comments will be addressed in the final version of the EA approved by the FTA.
