Prosperity Church Road
Thoroughfare Plan Amendment

UPDATE:
The MPO voted unanimously on November 19, 2008 to amend the Thoroughfare Plan as depicted at the September 16 public meeting.

Purpose: to discuss a proposed realignment of Prosperity Church Road.

Reason for Proposing the Realignment: to construct a 90 degree intersection of Prosperity Church Road and Eastfield Road.  Projected traffic volumes indicate that dual left-turn lanes will be needed from northbound Prosperity Church Road on to westbound Eastfield Road.  The current skewed alignment of the intersection will not allow for the construction of the dual left-turn lanes.

Prosperity Church Road currently ends at Eastfield Road, but the locally adopted Thoroughfare Plan calls for the road to be extended north to NC 73 in Huntersville.   If approved, the proposed realignment will result in the following:

a)     Existing Prosperity Church Road (south of Eastfield Road) will be slightly realigned to meet Eastfield Road with a standard 90 degree intersection.  See maps in the accompanying PowerPoint presentation posted on this website.

b) The future alignment of the proposed Prosperity Church Road (north of Eastfield Road) will be realigned as shown in the accompanying PowerPoint presentation posted on this website.

A public meeting was held on September 16th at Independence Hills Baptist Church on Eastfield Road from 6-8 pm. The project was discussed in depth along with its history and the reasons why the realignment is needed. The project received a positive response from those in attendance at the meeting.

Over the next few months, MUMPO Staff will guide the project through the local approvals process to ultimately amend the Thoroughfare Plan which makes the alignment change official. The tentative approval meeting schedule is as follows:

November 6th
10:00 AM
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center-Room 280

Mecklenburg-Union Metropolitan Planning Organization
November 19th

Public comments on the proposed amendment may be presented at this meeting.
