Expanded Public Information Process
What: Expand and improve the Mecklenburg Union Metropolitan
Planning Organization’s (MUMPO) public information process as it
relates to minority and low-wealth communities.
Why: Both the Federal Highway Administration and the Federal
Transit Administration require that recipients of federal funding
provide opportunities for all persons – regardless of race, color,
nationality or income- to participate in transportation processes
that may impact them. (Title
VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the related Executive Order on
Environmental Justice
How: MUMPO will undertake a process to ensure that
transportation project public practices and results are equitable
across all communities, identify and document the negative impacts
of transportation projects on minority and low-wealth communities
and to establish a process for avoiding or mitigating such negative
impacts in future projects.
