Expanded Public Information Process 

What:   Expand and improve the Mecklenburg Union Metropolitan Planning Organization’s (MUMPO) public information process as it relates to minority and low-wealth communities. 

 Why:   Both the Federal Highway Administration and the Federal Transit Administration require that recipients of federal funding provide opportunities for all persons – regardless of race, color, nationality or income- to participate in transportation processes that may impact them.  (Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the related Executive Order on Environmental Justice 

How:     MUMPO will undertake a process to ensure that transportation project public practices and results are equitable across all communities, identify and document the negative impacts of transportation projects on  minority and low-wealth communities and to establish a process for avoiding or mitigating such negative impacts in future projects.
