Public Hearing Maps:
The purpose of this project is to increase the capacity of I-485 and improve efficiency for local and regional traffic. It will add one lane in each direction between I-77 South and US 521/Johnston Road. The new lanes will be built in the roadway’s existing median. In addition, the proposed improvements include the construction of a flyover to provide northbound US 521 traffic access to westbound I-485. The existing ramp was constructed to accommodate the flyover and will require minor improvements. Travel information devices such as traffic cameras and changeable message signs will be installed as a part of this project
A construction contract is scheduled to be let in February 2012, with construction complete by 2015.
