I-77 Improvements (I-277 to W. Catawba Ave.)
TIP#:
I-5405
Jurisdiction:
Mecklenburg County

The NC Department of Transportation is analyzing the following:
a. conversion of the existing high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes on I-77 to high occupancy toll (HOT) lanes
b. extending the HOT lanes to W. Catawba Avenue (exit 28)
c. adding an additional HOT lane in each direction between I-85 and W. Catawba Avenue
d. construction and funding methods to accelerate work on the project
It is expected that the additional lanes will be constructed in the median, and that all proposed improvements will be located within the existing right-of-way (ROW) of I-77.
A federally-funded Categorical Exclusion (CE) is being prepared for the project. A CE is a type of review conducted under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) that analyzes projects not expected to result in significant environmental impacts. Completion of the CE is expected in spring/summer of 2012.
