Funding Type:
Equity
This project will result in the widening of NC 73/Sam Furr Road from US 21 (Statesville Road) to east of NC 115 (Old Statesville Road). The purpose of the widening is to reduce congestion and improve safety and mobility in the corridor. The project will also include a quadrant left turn at the intersection of NC 73 and US 21. See the video below for a demonstration of how the quadrant intersection functions.
The widening of this project was originally proposed to begin in FY 2012, however the Town of Huntersville has entered into a Municipal Agreement with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to advance this project. It is anticipated to be completed and open to traffic in April 2012. The Town will pay for the project and will be reimbursed by NCDOT in FY 2012 (The fiscal year refers to the federal government’s fiscal year which begins on October 1.) For more information about the project, please visit NCDOT’s website by clicking here.
