SAFETEA-LU Reauthorization
The Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) is the federal legislation that was signed into law in August of 2005 which guaranteed funding for highways, highway safety and public transportation. The authorization originally expired in 2009, but has been extended several times with the final expiration set to occur on September 30, 2011, coinciding with the end of the federal fiscal year. It is anticipated that the future reauthorization will be revealed as part of the federal Fiscal Year 2012 budget, but the details of the reauthorization are unclear at this time. As more information becomes available, this webpage will be updated.
